How to Create a Green Weave Button in Paint Shop Pro

Paint Shop Pro can be a little difficult to use. I find that Paint Shop Pro is harder that Photoshop. Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop both use layers but it seems that Paint Shop Pro is a just a little more difficult to learn. In this tutorial I will walk you through the steps of creating a green weave button. If you are new to Paint Shop Pro, this tutorial is for you. This is a beginner's tutorial because I will walk you step by step through this tutorial.

Step 1 - Creating a New Canvas to Create Our Button On

Go to the top of your window and click File > New. When the box pops up, enter 200 pixels for the width and height. You can crop your button at the end. Set your background color to white and click the OK button. Your new canvas will open in your Paint Shop Pro window.

Step 2 - Drawing your Button on your Canvas

The next step is to draw your button on your canvas. Click on your Shape Tool in your toolbar on the left side of your screen. The shape tool has a dark green square and a light green circle. Once you click the shape tool, you will need to go to the top of your Paint Shop Pro window and change the shape. At the top of your window you will see a shape. Drop that box down and select the rounded rectangle shape. Then draw the button on your canvas. You can draw it any size that you need.

Step 3 - Rasterize the Layer

Next, we will need to rasterize this layer so we can add the pattern to it. On the right side of your screen you will see your layer box. The top layer will say Vector. Right click on that layer and click Convert to Raster from the drop down menu.

Step 4 - Applying the Pattern to the Button

Now we will apply the weave pattern to the button. On the right side of your screen you will see two color boxes. The top box is the Foreground Color and the bottom box is the Background Color. Click on the Foreground Color box. The Material Box will open. You will see three tabs in that box. Click on the Pattern tab. You will see a drop down box with a pattern in it. Drop that box down and select the Green Weave pattern. Set the Scale size to about 120. Then click the OK button. Now select the Paint Bucket Tool in your toolbar. Click your mouse inside your button to apply the pattern.

Step 5 - Applying the Text to your Button

The next part of thsi tutorial is to apply the text to your button. If you are new to Paint Shop Pro, adding text can be pretty difficult. Click on the Text Tool in your toolbar. Go ahead and change the size of your text at the top of your window. A size 12 is a good size. Go ahead and change your Foreground Color too. Click on your Foreground Color and select the Color Tab. Change the color to the color you want. Then click OK on the box. Now you are ready to type your text. Click inside your button. A text window will open and you can type your text in that box. Click OK to apply the text. To move the text around grab the text in the center and move it. To size it down, grab the corner and move it inward.

That's all there is to it. Now you can crop your button and export it. To export it click File > Export > Jpeg Optimizer. When the Optimizer window comes up, click the OK button. Next, you will need to save the button somewhere on your computer. Then you are ready to add your button to your website.
