By default, when you install the MySpace IM, your message history is saved. Every time you chat with someone, your conversation is recorded and stored in the history folder. You can choose your settings for the message history though. In this guide I will show you how to change your MySpace IM Message History settings. Go ahead and open your MySpace IM if you don’t already have it open, and sign into it.

Go to the top of your instant messenger window and click File > Preferences. The Preference box will open and you will see the list of options down the left side of the box. Click the Message History link.

Now, I will show you how to change your message history settings. The section of the box you are in will have two settings in the top box. You can choose to save your history or not to save your history. Tick the option of your choice.

Viewing and Clearing the MySpace IM History

The next section is where you can view your saved history and clear it. Let’s look at the first button. This is the View Message History Files button. Click that button and a small box will open. If your chat conversations were saved, you will see all of them in this box. You can click the name of the IMs and view your entire conversation.

You can delete certain conversations by ticking the box next to the one you want to delete. Once you tick the box, click the Delete Checkmarked Histories button. To clear all of them, click Clear All button. Once you are done, click the Close button. You can also clear all of the history from the Preference box by clicking Clear All Message History Files. A box will pop up and ask you if you want to delete the conversations. Click the Delete button in the box to delete them. Once your history is deleted, the two buttons in this section will not be clickable.

Receiving Messages on MySpace IM While Offline

The last section in this box is your receiving IMs while you are offline. You have three choices in this section. You can choose to let everyone send you messages while you are offline, only people who are in your contact list, or no one. Tick the option of your choice and click the Apply button and then the OK button.
