During a persons everyday life they tend not to think about disappearing polar bears, melting glaciers, and many other effects of climate change. Many don’t know what the Copenhagen Accord is and sadly, they also don’t care. Understanding climate change and what the Copenhagen Accord helps to do and hopes to accomplish is key in people’s understanding of climate change.
The fact of the matter is, many people think climate change is some kind of futuristic ice storm or tropical storms on arctic areas of the Earth. They tend to let movies and Hollywood influence their position on such as important issue. Because of this, many are misinformed about climate change. The Copenhagen Accord was created to help bring the world together in the fight against global warming. It aims to help governments not only guide their nations in the direction of cleaner living but also to educate on what climate change is and exactly what it can mean.
One of the biggest problems with the Copenhagen Accord is that it is not legally binding. A nation may say they are doing something to fight climate change but in actuality they are not required to do so. And while the Accord is aimed at reducing emissions from an industrialized nation it does not set real targets. Another big problem with the Accord is funding. Sadly, there is no guarantee on where the funding for the project is coming from. On top of that there is no information on that funding either.
Whatever you view on the Copenhagen Accord is you will see it as an issue for upcoming elections. The fact that we live in a world that is changing daily gives us only the basic human response of fight or flight. And when it comes to climate change, sadly there is no where else to go.
